The Newtown Review of Books Stella Prize Reviewing Masterclass
Want to share your passion for books? Are you interested in the craft of reviewing?
The Newtown Review of Books is very excited to be partnering with the Stella Prize for our first Reviewing Masterclass on 25 September 2016. If you’re an aspiring or emerging reviewer or blogger, this is a chance to develop and strengthen your skills.
The masterclass is run jointly by NRB editors Jean Bedford and Linda Funnell. It offers practical tips and advice as well as discussion of ethical and legal issues, different approaches to critical practice, an overview of the reviewing landscape, and a handy checklist.
Participants will also have the opportunity to write a review within two weeks of the masterclass and have it critiqued by the editors.
Places are strictly limited to 10 people so if you’re interested, be quick!

About the tutors: Jean Bedford and Linda Funnell established the Newtown Review of Books in March 2012 and jointly edit all NRB’s reviews. Jean Bedford is a prizewinning novelist and short-story writer. She was Literary Editor of the National Times and has been a freelance and in-house publisher’s editor as well as a teacher of Creative Writing and a judge for many local, state and national literary awards and prizes. Linda Funnell is a publisher and editor, and has taught courses in publishing, editing and writing for UTS, the ASA and the NSW Writers’ Centre. For ten years she was a publisher with HarperCollins, and previously worked with Random House and Pan Macmillan. From November 2012 to December 2015 she was Chair of the New South Wales Writers’ Centre. In March 2015 she established the digital publishing imprint LF Books.
